Creed Humphrey Breakdown

Two years ago, Creed Humphrey was a young freshman trying to fit in with four NFL Draft picks. In one offseason, he became the leader of the group as only a sophomore. He took the challenge in stride and has now has his sights on bigger goals, including a national championship and a future in the NFL.

Despite a lack of length, Humphrey finds nearly any way to be successful from a power and mobility standpoint. He’s a stocky player, which puts his center of gravity low and makes it tough for anyone to gain leverage on him or run him over. A defender with length can win against him, but that’s about the only thing that consistently beats him. Recovering in pass protection is a fairly easy task for him, because he’s already lower than the man he’s blocking, and powerful enough to land a punch and reset his anchor.

Getting outside and to the second level isn’t difficult for Humphrey. He’s a smooth runner, which gives him a good range for players he can reach whether they’re in an adjacent gap or a linebacker scraping. Once he’s able to reach that player, he’s quick enough to turn his hips and cut them off from the play.

With a new quarterback coming into the picture, having a veteran at center like Humphrey is a huge asset. His snaps are consistent, and he’s a good communicator, which the new starter will need in order to get acclimated to the offense. With his experience, he’ll be able to gain some chemistry with the new guy, which hopefully gets the offense back to its explosive form.

Creed Humphrey went from playing with NFL talent to becoming one of his own. He’s a leader of an offense that’s been one of the most explosive units, and he’s played a huge role in that success.
